labarre studios
1445 The Alameda #2653, San Jose, CA 95126, United States
This studio is ridiculous!1. the instructor didn't correct any students during the class even thought they were making mistakes.2. My friend and I didn't bring Pilates socks since it was a hiit class on the mat. Then they told us to buy the socks which cost more than 20 dollars!!! (One of them was on sale which is 10), I told the front desk lady I don't want to buy since it is hiit on mat, and I saw people even wearing their own shoes standing on the mat which is dirty!! The front desk lady asked the instructor and they both agreed and let me to start the class without buying their Pilates socks, but pushed me to buy the socks after the class ended? ??( I just don't know what these people were thinking!!!)And Lisa said I was abusing her employee and broke their policy to enter the classroom which was lying! I entered the classroom with both the instructor and the receptionist's permission! They could say no and don't let me in! I was so shocked by what she said to me! why would I do that just for the hiit class?if they said no and I could leave the studio or buy the socks, I would never just disruptively get in the classroom ! I think she is abusing me by what she said!

Colibri Pottery Studio
1620 Old Oakland Rd D102, San Jose, CA 95131, United States
I went with two of my girlfriends for a weekend bonding activity and we had a blast! We originally found Colibri on Groupon but had a few needs that did not fit perfectly with what was offered on Groupon. When I called to ask questions and try and book our session, Ashley helped me out and was incredibly accommodating for our groups specific needs! She worked with me patiently as I coordinated with my friends and helped us seamlessly book our experience just one day prior to when we went in.Once at the studio, we took a class with Zena. Shes been working in pottery for 2 years and had extensive experience teaching us from the basics and ground up. Our class had 7 people total and the studio space was cozy (with other activities going on, including ceramics painting and canvas painting), but we were able to feel really engaged by Zena and her clearly understandable teaching style. She gave us lots of time to play around ourselves, while also helping us troubleshoot our pieces with each step so that we had a strong foundation on which to build our pieces. In addition, toward the end of class when our time was running a bit shorter and our pieces were not as finished as we would have liked, she also was able to be really hands-on and help us refine and finish our piece in a way that we were happy with. (I thought we would only have time to make 1 piece, but we actually got to come away from the class with 2 pieces!) Finally, she helped us pick out colors for pieces which the studio would help us glaze and bake, after which we would pick them up in 4-6 weeks. Zena was super patient, encouraging, and interactive - an awesome teacher, really fun energy, and an amazing first person to introduce us all to pottery!12/10 would bring my friends or my partner again for a future activity or date night!! Thank you Zena, Ashley, and Colibri Pottery Studio for an incredible day and experience!
Maloneys Martial Arts
5807-B2, Winfield Blvd, San Jose, CA 95123, United States
I never really thought about doing karate before a friend mentioned that he had started at Maloney Martial Arts and highly recommended that my husband and I try it. Im so glad I did! In just the few months Ive been training, I can already confidently do several types of kicks and punches. And I feel much more comfortable being home alone with my young kids, since I now have instantly usable self-defense skills to protect my family in case the worst ever happens. We start most sessions with a review of several self-defense moves as well, so they are always fresh in my mind. Each session not only do I get a great physical workout, but a mental workout as well. It takes a lot of mental focus to keep your body moving in the correct order for punches, kicks, and everything else in between. I didnt realize how challenging this part of karate was going to be! But the instructors are always there with helpful tips and encouragement to keep going, and its very satisfying to finally nail something that I had been practicing. The karate training is great, but I especially love how welcoming, kind and helpful all the instructors and fellow students are. It doesnt matter if its your first session or youve been there for years, you are already a part of the team. On the days I just dont feel like going, knowing Ill be hanging out with my fun group and training together gets me motivated to walk out the door. And Im always glad I went.
Cactus House Recording
21639 Almaden Rd, San Jose, CA 95120, United States
We recorded an EP and album with Trevor at Cactus House Recording. We've had 3 sessions total and every session is better than the last as Trevor dials in our sound! The studio itself is cozy and welcoming, with lots of instruments and amps at our disposal. Trevor is an excellent recording engineer and did a great job mixing our tracks. One stop shop for mixing, mastering, and distribution. We can't wait to get back in the studio. Also, the kitties Miso and Ash are super cute and fun to hang out with when not tracking. Erika is the sweetest and makes you feel right at home.
Dance With Ceech
196 Jackson St, San Jose, CA 95112, United States
Discovering Ceechs Hip Hop class at Mission College was an incredible stroke of luck for me. Ceech is an exceptional teacher and wonderful person. The class is engaging and empowering for all levels of hip hop dancers. All dance moves are taught and explained with easy to follow instructions that instill strong fundamentals and allows you to develop at your own pace. All dance moves are clearly broken down so that dancers of all levels can grasp the core principles of choreography and movement. Ceech fosters a belief that anyone can excel in hip hop with the right guidance and determination. Its not uncommon to see former students dropping by or being invited by Ceech to share their insights and dance experiences, fostering a sense of community and mentorship within the class. Ceechs unwavering commitment to sharing his dance expertise and nurturing personal growth is truly commendable. He consistently motivates and supports his students, helping them refine their techniques and build the confidence needed to shine on stage. The course culminates in a final performance alongside other dance groups, offering students a chance to showcase their skills in front of live audiences. Whether youre a newcomer to hip hop or looking to elevate your skills, I wholeheartedly endorse this course. Given that the course is provided by Mission College, Santa Clara residents have the opportunity to enroll at low cost, making it an invaluable opportunity that shouldnt be missed.
Beauty Innovations
1157 Saratoga Ave #117, San Jose, CA 95129, United States
I do not recommend her at all. She is really inconsiderate and unapologetic. She seems to think only her time is of value and has strict tardy rules when it comes to it. However, when it is the other way around she does not have any common courtesy. She will start your appointment very late. She will rush all the way through to try and accommodate the person after you. She will make you late to your event if it is time sensitive and will go way past the discussed time frame. She will as a result make appointments after you late as well. She rushes a lot. She drops things, moves very quickly and is pretty rough. She also used the wrong type of foundation on me because I told her I had used it before and even though I said to use whatever she thought was best... she took the easy way out and as a result it didnt look good...She was aware of my skin concerns and desire to focus on skin.To be honest, I also felt a little grossed out as well. She said she was going to quickly rinse the beauty blender she used on the person before me for me... idk what she meant by rinse but I did not feel comfortable with it and she didnt end up doing it anyways. She is very unapologetic. She didnt think to apologize for making me late and nor did she even acknowledge her mistakes when I talked to her about it and tried to settle things. Shes more of those I am sorry you feel that way people vs. I am sorry for making you feel that way. Definitely not a good attitude for someone offering services.Would not offer advice, suggestions even when I understood she might have forgotten my makeup. She did not even want to suggest products she could have used on me. Wanted me to take a whole other class with her just to know a few products she used on me.BOTTOM LINE: The Bay Area has a ton of other makeup artists. Who are not only better in their skill set, but their professionalism, respect, attitude and actually caring for their clients. The makeup was good, but the experience was terrible... not worth it.
Wushu Central Martial Arts Academy
879 Coleman Ave #40, San Jose, CA 95110, United States
My son, Patrick, has been attending Wushu Central for over 3 years since he was 7. Initially, it was just to introduce a new activity for exercise. But at that age, Wushu Central not only teaches Wushu as a martial art skill, but also about respect, discipline, honor, anti-bullying and self-defense (from a stranger-danger point-of-view). He graduated Wushu Kids and now is on a track working towards a black-belt. Patrick loves his classes and the challenge of building up his skills and stamina for each level-up.We chose Wushu over other martial arts since Wushu is more about personal skills and performance rather than actual physical contact/combat that is inherent in Tae Kwan Do or Karate. More about what you can do on your own than what you can do against others.Cobra Kai this is not!Although the skills taught are rooted in self-defense, kids going through the basic classes are not expect to spar with others. This appealed to my sons personality and was less intimidating than classes that would require him to actually physically make contact with opponents.I think that Wushu Central does offer special classes that include sparring/physical contact with an opponent for older kids/adults as well as womens self-defense classes and Tai-Chi.Besides Sifu (aka Teacher) David, most of the other teachers have come up through the ranks as Sifu Davids students. Generally, the teachers are 5 to 15 years older than their students and were/are students themselves and thus relate very well with the kids. The school is fairly relaxed about the mastery of skills at this level, but I expect that approaching the higher belt levels, the expectations and requirements for reaching the next level will increase. But for youngsters, as long as they attend classes, and have a semblance of the moves being learned, theyll move up from level to level in steady progression.Classes are twice a week for 45 minutes each, though during normal (non-COVID) times, they also offer the same classes back to back in a 1.5 hour session. During this last year (2020), Wushu Centrals been offering Zoom-based sessions as well as onsite classes. The on-site classes are limited in the number of students and an onsite class will always have the same students...no mixing from other classes. The main thing for us is how much Patrick enjoys the classes. And during these times, its one of the few organized, physical activities that he gets to do on a weekly basis.
Starlite Ballroom
5178 Moorpark Ave #60, San Jose, CA 95129, United States
With a big social event three months away, my wife and I (active middle-aged couple) wanted to ensure we would have fun on the dance floor and not embarrass ourselves. I called a few large studios in the area for information on group and private lessons. Starlite was the only studio who responded. I spoke with Hiral who carefully listened, clearly understood what we were looking for and suggested we meet with Ken.Ken's passion and energy are quickly apparent. We came with two left feet but he made us feel comfortable in this new environment from the very beginning. He taught us moves and gave us exposure to a few different ballroom dance styles, with the end goal being that we would have fun in a social dancing environment – not perform to perfection in a competition. His sense of humor was perfect for us, and we laughed as much as we danced. Ken also has an uncanny ability to thoroughly summarize each lesson in a 5 minute video that we took home for practice at the end of each lesson. We enjoyed the lessons so much that soon we were doing double-lesson sessions, asking to learn more and adding more lessons than we originally planned for.We can't recommend Ken enough. He's an outstanding instructor. His passion, patience, personality and pragmatic approach were a perfect fit. Mission accomplished.
Empire Seven Studios
525 N 7th St suite 10, San Jose, CA 95112, United States
The art here is awesome totally homegrown the place originated from nothing and the curator / advocate / artist / art administrators /community / representative / owner fought tooth and nail and has came a long way to have an art establishment in this neighborhood at one point they even shut him down and now look what a beautiful result for a long road of hard work thank you so much sir for your hard work and dedication to your community and the arts I I salute you so much talent Grace is these walls very much a must-see anytime youre on the north side of San Jose I had the luxury of meeting the artist who is the creator of idolls. A very unique artistic ideogram that is the central focus of his practice he has I was impressed with this simplistic representative of such a complex concept . Reminding me of the energy that is blown out of proportion by social norms, eyedoll keeps focus to the true nature of what defines the energy of the all.So next time youre in the area of 67th and empire. Slow down and check out the empire studios and gifts. Its well worth the time
Unity Bulldogs Pet Grooming
953 Park Ave, San Jose, CA 95126, United States
I came across Unity Bulldog Pet Grooming by chance one day while driving by. After I memorized their name, I searched them on Instagram and saw that a lot of my fellow pet parents were following them. I assumed that they were trustworthy, so I decided to give them a try. I had Deebo groomed by other grooming businesses before, but I never felt completely satisfied with their services. Either Deebo wasnt getting a good grooming or they were taking forever to service him, which meant he was probably caged while he was waiting. He is already a very nervous frenchie, so this concerned me.Fortunately, Deebo got a great service from his first grooming appointment at Unity where he was groomed within an hour. Mario took the time to get to know me and explain exactly what had been done with Deebo. He also gave me some tips on how to keep my pet clean. From that moment on, I knew we had found our go-to grooming spot.Deebo has been serviced so far by Jesus and Sophia as well and their work transfers all around. Their attention to detail and care for the doggies is phenomenally genuine. I believe that if Deebo gets the opportunity to be groomed by another staff member, I will trust them because the team as a whole shares the same attentivenes, care, and respect for our pets. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming; shoutout to Jessica as well for always receiving us with a smile at the reception and for extra pampering her fur babys tocayo.Deebo loves going for his monthly service and is now a pro model at their photo ops which is also a plus.
